It's been a while since I started a music thread... I discovered Cara Dillon, a wonderful Irish singer, at MySpace at the end of 2006, and I've been an enthusiastic fan ever since. Her latest CD After The Morning shows a slight transition from folk towards pop and I think the results are outstanding. Her music is probably a good fit for those who like the Corrs' Home CD. Cara Dillon was born in Dungiven, County Londonderry, North Ireland in 1975, and has been performing from a young age. She has an almost angelic voice with which she won the All Ireland Singing Trophy at age 14. She also became vocalist for Oige, an Irish band in her area. In 1995, she became the vocalist for Equation, an Irish "folk super-group" that toured Europe and the Middle East. In July 2001, Dillon released her debut solo self-titled album on Rough Trade Records. She has worked with several musicians like Phil Coulter and Paul Brady. She has also received critical acclaim in British music magazines and in 2001 received two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, one for Best Newcomer (Horizon Award) and the other for Best Traditional Track. She also plays fiddle and whistles. www.caradillon.co.uk/www.myspace.com/caradillonAs is my luck, I discovered her music in late 2006, just about the time when Cara birth to twins, Noah and Colm and she took some years off. She is married to a very talented musician in his own right, Sam Lakeman, who performs with Cara in this clip of "Garden Valley."

It's nice to see her back after her break. She has a new album coming out this fall, and she just released this DVD a few days ago: I definitely would love seeing that! She is immensely talented, if you ask me.

I just got the new DVD (PAL, All Regions) last night and I really think it's awesome. All but one of the songs are performed in a really lovely house right next to the ocean in County Donegal. The final song was filmed in a beautiful pub setting surrounded with glasses of Guinness! ; It gives one the cozy feeling that one is a winter-time guest in the beautiful home sharing good craic with a talented group of acoustic musicians. In between the songs, are scenes of the beauty of the surrounding area and interviews of Cara about her music. Cara has such wonderful Irish accent. The music is absolutely wonderful!

I just got back from the 14th annual Sebastopol Celtic World Music Festival this weekend. Among many quality international artists was Cara Dillon. She arrived at the festival with a handkerchief and a head cold, but she sang beautifully nevertheless. I got to see her perform on three different occasions and she was also kind enough to autograph all my CDs and DVDs. Even though she has won Meteor Music Awards as best Irish female in 2004 and 2007, she isn't well known in California. I took advantage of that fact (this time around, at least) and had seats in the front row twice and second row once! Here are a few photos from yesterday's concert: Beautiful weekend in Sonoma County: Cara Dillon and band: Cara and her fiddle: On tin whistle: Beautiful singing: Giving her husband Sam Lakeman a million dollar bill! Getting a standing ovation from the crowd: She is a really unassuming and kind person!

CW, if you don't already have this, I highly recommend this DVD for you, as someone who is a student of good singing and an aficianado of the Corrs' MTV Unplugged DVD. Had that thought while watching it tonight. What a great ensemble of musicians and I can't even put into words how well she sings.

I didn't quite know how to answer this because I wasn't sure what you mean when you use the word "tear". But yes, she plays both fiddle and tin whistle - so she has her Sharon and Andrea sides, hihi. In case anyone is ever interested, here are five YouTubes that were made of Cara's performances in Sebastopol, California last month: Where Are YouJohnny BoyGarden ValleyI Wish You WellThere Were Roses
