Steve, after I get back from Center Parcs I will do my utmost best to get this CD for you and to you asap!!!!! Thank you, Cynni! I hope you'll have a chance to listen soon, too! Here's a recent live performance of "Mr. Light" that was done at the Heineken Music Hall in support of James Morrison. (It should be pointed out that Bertolf's new album is currently #39 on the Dutch album charts while James Morrison's album is currently #52) : HQThere is some FREE MUSIC of Bertolf's if you go the website of his former band called "The We" (a band with Bertolf, Victor "Pianoman" Heisterkamp, and Ruben Hogenes): www.heisterkamp.biz/thewe.htmlBe forewarned, some of the music is very crazy! A good example of this is Going Down (a really funny "early rock 'n' roll crooner" one!! ;D ) Here's how the music is described at the MySpace page for The We: THE WE originated in 2002 as a home-recording hobby band, in which bandmembers, neighbours and students Bertolf Lentink (The Junes) and Victor Heisterkamp could primarily enjoy themselves. Those early recordings often have a quite tongue-in-cheek atmosphere due to the excessive consumption of Mary Jane. More serious highlights of this period are the songs Stay and Where Are The Stars That Shine. The first being a kind of Stevie Wonder-ish song, and the second being a weird hybrid of all kinds of styles. The two have picked up recording again in 2007. This time with better mics, better software and more musical baggage. Important guidelines by which they operate are the 'more is more'-concept (e.g recording double-tracked harmonies on top of each other as many times as possible) as well as the complete freedom to create very sweet, silly and soft music, not caring about being cool, rock 'n roll, hip or commercial. Not worrying about making a set of songs within one concept; even switching musical styles within one song. Because consistency is boring. They work very spontaneously; based on intuition rather than rational thought. Influences are ofcourse The Beatles, as well as Paul McCartney's solo career with Wings, and other 70's pop like Billy Joel and E.L.O.

I'm so glad, Linda! Thanks for listening. Bertolf has been working hard at promotion, performing as often as possible to promote his debut album. Here is a performance of "Back Of Her Head" recorded the hallway of Radio3FM on DJ Giel Beelen's radio show: It really angers me that, after all his hard work in making a terrific album, he has people stealing his music at piracy sites. I copied this page right off the internet; it shows that Bertolf's album has been stolen 2,470 times! Found on the internet on 2/2/09.It's really so incredibly mean and hurtful to the cause of good music!!!!!!!

Some live performances of Bertolf from Free Record Shop last month:
"Back of Her Head" (a song he wrote when the 19 year old brother of his then-girlfriend died. It's about the helplessness he felt in wanting to try to help her through it)
"All in the Letter"
"Broken Beyond Repair"
"Mr. Light"

It's me again, yup! I thought I'd post a couple of new acoustic performances by Bertolf of songs from his album called FOR LIFE. These are from the "3FM Serious Talent" session in the Starsound Studios in Utrecht: "The Way I Love You Now" HQ"Another Day" HQI feel pretty alone in this, but I hear greatness in his music - good melody, good playing and good singing...

Thanks for those acoustics ... I think you appreciate the songs better and you can see how talented an artist could be just seeing him singing alone in stage with a guitar! I loved the songs, the first one sounds a bit like country.

Here is another recent fan-made YouTube of a performance he gave on the 26th of February. This is the first YouTube that I have seen of his song "Home" which I think has a really lovely melody: HQAnd here - from the same concert - he peforms the song "Monogamy" which is one of my favourites from his album: HQIt's a lot of fun to follow an artist who is only beginning on a career. Unfortunately with the Corrs, I missed all the early years, and wish I would have known about them earlier.

That's cool that you found his album. Yes, "Mr. Light" is a great one. Our very own Cynthia here at this board got to see Bertolf peforming on 12 March, 2009 and she has uploaded some YouTubes of the concert. The sound is maybe a bit harsh because she was right in front of Bertolf's Vox amplifier! It still gives you a good sense of the performance, though, and allows us to hear Bertolf's guitar part in great detail! Thanks, Cynni!! "Mr. Light" (with cool guitar solo at the end): HQHere's another favourite of mine called "Feel You" (I like the song's beautiful melody. It's sounds a bit like something Coldplay might do): HQHere's another one of my favourite songs called "Home" (lovely melody): HQThanks to Cynni for these ... and more at her YouTube page! (Hope your ears are better now! )

The brand new clip for Bertolf's single "Mr. Light": HQ (HD)He and his band appeared on a radio show and performed a cover of a song I hadn't heard before (but I guess the song was bigger in Europe) called "Beggin'" - original by Madcon: HQCORRECTION! The original of this song was done by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons!

In March this year, Bertolf performed some songs by artists who have inspired him, including The Beatles, James Taylor, John Mayer and Rufus Wainwright. He covers them all on solo guitar as part of Onder Invloed ("Under the Influence"): onderinvloed.com/home/2009/07/session-bertolf/(Probably my final chance to ever make a fan out of Simone, hehe, and finally get a French flag at my fledgling Bertolf forum. ) Just a sample: HQ
