Firstly, a massive vote of gratitude to our (and Sharon's) great friend Hellen Bach for encouraging Sharon to make this clip describing her thoughts on the songwriting process. This was put together to help promote the Young Songwriters Competition being run by Barnardos, the major UK children's charity. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9IEK6QsuiwIn the process, we also receive a preview of Butterflies. Having become accustomed to treating any utterance emanating from Robert Gavin Bonnar with the utmost scepticism; I must now confess he may be 100% right in his advance billing of this song. I feel that it would not require the viewer to be a Corr fan or a Sharon fan or not to find this this clip interesting.

That had to be one of the most interesting clips I've ever seen. First of all, I loved hearing Sharon explain how she puts the structure of a song together. And secondly... the song. Those 20 seconds or so of Butterflies that Sharon plays in that clip sent chills up and down my spine, that's how moving I thought that it was. Logically, I would say that it's premature to say that it's an amazing song... but I can't deny getting chills. Wow is about all that I can say. And that I can't wait to get the CD and listen to the rest of the song. Peter had mentioned that he thought that Butterflies was just a piano and vocal song; I wonder if that means that Sharon plays the piano on the album version. This just may be the track to have Sharon go over to the piano for during her set and play. -- Marie

I agree with you both about "Butterflies" - it sounds like a song that I'm going to really enjoy. Sharon's singing was superb in that clip. For all the success that the Corrs have had, it has been a rare occasion in which we can get a glimpse into the creative processes that go into the making of their music. I remember being fascinated by the video of Caroline and Jim discussing song craft behind "Would You Be Happier". I am very grateful for this video about the creation of "Butterflies" for similar reasons. It's interesting to hear her thoughts on striving to connect emotionally with her songs, writing from the heart and personal experience and also about her wanting to work up from the verses the chorus to make the chorus feel uplifting. Very interesting video. (Does anyone else find the sound volume in this video a bit low? I had to crank it up. Then I forgot to turn it back down for the next YouTube and got a loud blast in the ears! )
