Caro, "The Calling" takes place...und jetzt halte dich fest, sonst lachst du dich tot... at a weekly Bingo event! (Hahahahahaha, okay, at least Caro and Sabine know why I am laughing so loud now!) And the protagonist reflects some parts of her life in her thoughts. I got my copy of "Irish girls are back in town" through www.bol.de but I am sure you can get it (and the other books) through www.amazon.de as well. Well, Sabine, what can I say...I started with Cecelia´s story, you know me! Only after reading that one I began to read the book from the very beginning. Can you believe that I actually enjoyed the "cake" story?! Though I wasn´t to happy about the writing style. But I enjoyed the story itself. A story that I didn´t like too much was the one of the lady flying to the Netherlands to get married...um, geez, what a surprising turn at the end of the story, right? Again, I wasn´t able to like the style of writing too much. But okay...these are the only stories I read so far. At the moment I am in the middle of story number three. Hihi, and yes, I remembered you telling me about the stories before and I took that as reason for skipping them first and go ahead and read "The calling" before the other stories. *lol*

I bought the book at www.amazon.deHaha, the first 2 stories of the book were some of them that I considered as strange. The first one ok, it was better than the second. That one was really strange. Haha, I also was really surprised about the ending. The first 3 or 4 stories (can´t remember how many) were all really unpredictable to me. They had either a strange plot, or turned out to be completely different to what they made us think in the end. Haha, now I think I know what the 3rd story is about. I don´t have the book here, so I can only guess. Haha, is it about the lover of a woman? Haha, man, this is a very strange story!!! I can tell you, haha.

Haha, yes, the Bingo event, haha. I nearly finished the story last night And yes, the story you´re reading right now is the Lover story, I checked it in the book last night. That´s one of the weirdest ones of the book. Ok, I found the first 4 stories really weird, the next 3 stories are really good, I absolutely liked them and then the next one again was not so great. Now I´m curious what the next stories will be like.

Hey girls! We got my mum a German copy of "If you could see me now" for her birthday this week. And, I kind of forced her to start reading it immediately. Luckily she had just finished the last book she was reading, so she needed a new one anyway. You have to know that my mum is a real glutton for books, she reads a lot and she has also already read the first 2 books of Cecelia and like us, she liked them, too. Now I´m asking her all the time about the book. Haha, I told her that she should join our reading group, when she has finished it, haha. But, I was kind of shocked about the translation. I was wondering how they might have translated some of the expressions used in the English version, so I checked them immediately and was rather disappointed. I mean, they translated "Jesus" with "Jesses". Haha, at first I was like, "what the heck is this?". Then I checked some more translations, but it didn´t get better. They didn´t even differ between "Löwenzahn" and "Pusteblume", although that´s what we call it in German and, there´s a huge difference between them, but they called it all the same. Ok, I´ve forgotten what more there was that upset me, but I really wasn´t satisfied with the translation. I already thought about complaining about it at the publishing company and to offer to do the translation of Cecelia´s next book, but I couldn´t find any address to send my complaint to.

It took me a while, I guess. But here I am, finally posting in this thread again.
It´s more than just a pity that the German versions of Cecelia´s books lack that certain Ahern-ity. (And why would anyone translate "Jesus" with "Jesses"?!) Sabine, you should really go for the translation of the next book or else the German readers will never learn what Cecelia´s truely all about! We´ll find that contact address that you need, as soon as possible!
Despite the fact that your mom keeps saying that she doesn´t have the time to join our book club, I´d say she hasn´t got any chance to not join.

Ok, I´ll go for the next translation. Of corrs my mum can only join our reading club, but it seems that she doesn´t know that so far, haha. I´ll tell her later that there´s no way of getting out of it. We´ll see what happens then.

Most likely she won´t believe you which means we´ll have to think about something that will show her, one and for all, that we´re not simply joking about this!

Most likely she won´t believe you which means we´ll have to think about something that will show her, one and for all, that we´re not simply joking about this! Probably, yes. Ok, here´s my plan: We invite her over to a party, that of course will never take place, it´ll be only us sitting there with our books, discussing Cecelia and her stories and then she´s trapped. Hahaha, we kind of kidnap her. What do you say? She´ll like that, I´m sure

Hahaha, my mum still doesn´t really see why she should join our little reading group. I think she doesn´t really get the purpose of it. But, once she has joined in she´ll love it, I´m sure.
But, what I actually wanted to say is, that I remember what annoyed me most with the translation of the German version of "If you could see me now". It´s the way they translated "Ekam Eveileb". In German they call it "Eisatnaf" which means Fantasy in English. OMG, I was so angry when I read that. I mean, ok, the meaning of the word has something to do with "Ekam Eveileb", at least, but it really doesn´t get the true sense of the English version. "Ekam Eveileb" means "Make believe". Cecelia wants the people to start believing in dreams and the whole world of imaginary friends that she has created in this book. Phantasie of course is one aspect of believing, but it´s definitely not the perfect name for the place where Ivan comes from.

yeah, well, I think it's really true what you say, sabine. "Make believe" is much more elaborated than "fantasia"....because if Cecelia would have wanted to let him come from "Fantasia" she would have written "aisatnaf" right?

German translations make me feel sick. Haha, *lol* okay, I am kidding. But I have to agree what you said, Caro and Sabine. What else can I say?
Sabine, seriously, we´ll just bainwash your mom and then she´ll be more than happy to join our reading group. But call yourself lucky. My mom still refuses to read the german translations of Cecelia´s books. She keeps on pointing out that she isn´t too fond of that kind of books!!! She sure doesn´t know what she´s missing!
