Wiku showed me a link to a review of the Bonn concert by Micha. I am posting it here, because things go away over there with with time: Late, but hopefully not too late: My review of the concert in Bonn 08-Jul-2005 21:03:45 CorrBoard Time: 10-Jul-2005 03:26:12
Hi all
I have to 'warn' you, because it's a real long one. As you can read in the review, i came to Bonn very late. So, i fortunately didn't experienced what happened to those who were there very early. I also want to apologize that my English isn't always the best ;-)
Here it is:
The Corrs at the 'Summer Special' in Bonn
As i had read on the CorrBoard (http://www.corrboard.com) about the announcement that The Corrs will play in Bonn again, I was probably one of the first who ordered tickets for it.
Since many weeks I looked forward to see The Corrs live on stage again. One week ago they played in Paris at a special concert also. The had a premiere there of 4 new songs. Due to this i almost couldn't await to hear this songs played live too.
Unfortunately i couldn't go to Bonn already a day before. I had to pick up my daughter from school at about 12:00. But then we could start our trip. I checked the route on my navigation system and according to it the trip should last about 4 hours and 15 minutes. This could have been a time frame to arrive in Bonn at a time to get a relatively good place.
After about half of the trip the traffic came to a virtual standstill for the first time. But this shouldn't be the last time. Almost every half an hour we were caught up in a traffic jam It was horrible. At the end our trip lasted more than 6 hours and we arrived in Bonn between 6 and 6:30 pm. Too late for a good place. We had to queue and i can say that I'd never been standing in such a long queue. This was really bothering. In the end we got such a bad place that we almost could see nothing of the stage!
The warm-up group was a German girl accompanied by a guy playing a guitar. The songs were o.k.. It was not my kind of music, but they were much better than 'Myslovitz', the warm-up group of the 'Borrowed Heaven Tour' in Germany last year. She appologized for their other band members whom couldn't be there too, because of some reasons. So they had to play their songs as a duett. I wondered if the band really has more members or if they actually a duett. They played about 30 to 40 minutes. Then they left the stage and the audience was waiting for The Corrs.
After about 10 minutes the crowed in the front began with singing and clapping.
The Corrs came on stage about 8:15 pm. They opened the concert with 'Only when I sleep', followed by 'Dreams'. The audience was already in a 'happy' mood and was singing along right from the beginning. That's how a concert has to start *smile*
Then Andrea spoke some words in German. She always speaks the first words in the language of the country where they are currently playing. That's always great and always sounds very sweet. Then she turned to speak English, because like she says, she only can speak a few words in German.
They continued with then 'Angel', a track of the actual album 'Borrowed Heaven'. It's a great and very thought-provoking song. This was followed by 'What can I do'. I'm always smiling when Andrea changes the words at the end of the song and sings '…love you'. Right after this they went on with two of their greatest classics 'Forgiven, not forgotten' and 'Runaway'. I really love the part when Sharon's starting the song with playing the violin, followed by the 'dramatic' sound of the piano.
Everytime when it comes to 'Runaway' I think of the great concert in Lansdowne Road. I wasn’t there, but I saw the DVD of it. Andrea always holds the microphone to the audience and let them sing along. And the audience in Bonn did great with that! Already at this point it was a great concert, but it went better and better. Is that possible? Yes, it is!
They continued with 'Old Hag you killed me'. This is one of their new songs which will be on the next album. The album will be called 'Home' and maybe will be released in September/October this year. It's such a great instrumental with that 'real Irish sound'. It sounds like a great 'follower' of 'Toss the feathers'. It makes you 'wanna dance' right from the beginning. The audience was clapping and jumping. What a great mood!
Then we got the pleasure again to listen to Sharon and Caroline singing ‘No frontiers’. What a great moment to see Caroline back. During the ‘Borrowed Heaven Tour’ last year Sharon had to sing this song alone, because Caroline were pregnant at this time and couldn’t go on tour with her siblings. She only was with them on some of the first and on the last concert of the tour. But now, she’s back again.
After this song we could listen to ‘Heart like a wheel, the second of the 4 new songs. It was a warm day, but I really got goosebumps. And as I’m writing here on this review I have goosebumps again. I can here Andrea’s beautiful voice accompanied by Jim’s piano playing again. This feeling to be in heaven held on during the next 3 songs. They continued with ‘My Lagan love’ (also a new song), ‘Queen of Hollywood’ (another classic) and ‘Black is the color’ (the last of the new songs’. I closed I my eyes and only listened to the music. Someone could have lifting me and I wouldn’t have notice it.
As they played ‘Radio’, I ‘came’ back to earth immediately. The crowed again began with clapping and singing alone, which ‘woke me up’ from daydreaming. This held on during the following ‘Summer sunshine’ and got even better with ‘So young’. As the played ‘I never loved you anyway’ we could guess that the evening was coming to it’s end. This time Andrea didn’t introduce the band during the song was played. That was a bit pity, because that’s always a very funny part of the concerts. She introduced the band right after the song. Like at the concerts of the ‘Borrowed Heaven Tour’ I was on last year, one after the other left the stage at the end of ‘Goodbye’. Jim’s playing piano and went from stage as the last one.
Only a few minutes after The Corrs left the stage the crowed began with yelling ‘encore’ and singing ‘Ole, ole, ole…’ (or something like that). The Corrs didn’t let us wait long for the encore, which was very great.
The first song after they were back on stage again was ‘Breathless’. The evening ended up with ‘Toss the feathers’. The mood was at it’s highest level during the song. Many of the audience weren’t only clapping, they were also jumping and dancing.
I really want to thank the audience for such a great mood. They all did a great job. Way to go!
07/06/2005, Michael Schlereth
You can find the review also on my website tributetothecorrs.net/ with a few small pictures (thanks to lopiko/Tommaso)
I wasn't that 'happy' all the time as it seems to be, because of the bad place we had. But i tried to 'catch' the mood the audience were in all the time.
There is another thing i don't want to miss anymore. I got to know lopiko at this concert. As i had read here that he was searching for someone he could go with to Montreux, i told him to come with us. We had a very great time in the next 3 days which i'll never forget. Hope to see him again sometime.
Micha
P.S.: I will also write a review of the concert in Montreux. Thanks for your patience.[/b]
