THE CORRS
Home
They began as a simple Irish family playing together and staying together. Then The Corrs became one of the hottest exports across the globe. In the past 15 years, they’ve played for a President, a Princess and a Pope – and even really world famous figures such as Mick Jagger and Bono.
They have gone far beyond their pub singalong starting point selling more than 40 million albums, while the youngest sister, honey-voiced lead singer Andrea, was voted the most beautiful woman in the world.
On their last album, Borrowed Heaven, The Corrs struck out for the mainstream, but Home returns to their musical birthplace, raiding the songbook of their late mother Jean and more contemporary favourites such as Anna McGarrigle’s "Heart Like A Wheel."
It seems sure to cheer those who feared they’d forgotten where they came from and the music that made them famous.
Producer Mitchell Froom and string arranger extraordinaire Fiachra Trench are on hand to give well-weathered favourites such as "Peggy Gordon" and "My Lagan Love" a modern twist.
Although the Irish traditional album is hardly an original idea, The Corrs can’t help but fill windswept meditations such as Moorlough Shore with love, care and passion.
In the past, Sinead O’Connor, Van Morrison and even Val Doonican have made the journey back home to the fireside. So it’s a tribute both to The Corrs’ long-standing familiarity with this material and their ability to give it a refreshing contemporary feel that Home freshens the parts other back-to-our-roots efforts leave untouched.
This is where their art is and The Corrs have never sounded more at home.
