Máire Breatnach is a very talented woman from Ireland. Her main instrument is the fiddle. But she also plays other instruments like the piano. She makes traditional Irish music. The fiddle comes to the fore. However she sings as well. I have got to albums from Máire. "The Voyage of Bran" and "Angels Candles". I'm totally fascinated by her music. I'm a huge fan of her.

Máire BreatnachA friend of mine who is actually one of the pub members here, Daniel, just told me about Irish violinist and vocalist Máire Breatnach. Though she is very famous, I (the newbie ) don't really know much about her, but her sound samples are very good. On top of that, she has performed with the best in the world. Máire has composed and recorded four solo albums: Angels' Candles, The Voyage of Bran, Celtic Lovers and Dreams and Visions in Irish Song - Aislingí Ceoil. On fiddle, viola, whistles, piano and keyboards, guitar and vocals, Máire has performed and recorded with Riverdance, Christy Moore, Alan Stivell, Ronan Keating, Máire Brennan, Phil Chevron, Sinead O' Connor, Altan, Sharon Shannon, Mary Black, Mike Oldfield, Donovan, Dave Gilmour, Sarah Brightman, Gavin Friday, Nigel Kennedy, Donal Lunny, Dolores Keane, Ronnie Drew, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Ronan Hardiman and Bill Whelan. As a record producer, she has worked with Sonny Condell, Johnny McEvoy, Jim McCann, The Black Family, Keith Donald, Pádraigín Ní Úallacháin, Méav and Lasairfhióna Ní Chonaola. TV and film credits include Glenroe, Tinteán, and Voyage (RTE), A Freezing Summer (Japan), Angela Mooney Dies Again, In The Name of the Father, The Secret of Roan Inish, Rob Roy and Moondance. Recently, Máire has featured on the two chart-topping albums, Tears of Stone (The Chieftains), which subsequently won a Grammy award, and Éist, for which she wrote the title song, a duet with Brian Kennedy. Máire Breatnach is currently working on her fifth solo album. I found another short bio of her: A passionate approach to the traditional music of Ireland has made violin and viola player and composer Máire Breatnach one of the most promising newcomers to Celtic music. According to Bill Whelan, the composer of Riverdance, the production in which she first attracted attention, Breatnach has "an ability to compose original music while drawing deeply from the well of her beloved tradition." Breatnach has continued to inspire listeners as a soloist. "Fiddlestix" called her debut album, Angel's Candles released in 1995, "A work of genius that begs to be heard by every discerning fan of Celtic music". Breatnach has further built on her reputation with two subsequent albums - Branohm/Voyage Of Bran, based on an ancient Irish myth, and Celtic Lovers - both released in 1997.
A student of classical and traditional music as a youngster, Breatnach has incorporated both traditions into her style. In addition to playing fiddle and viola on Sinead O'Connor's recording of "You Made Me The Thief Of Your Heart," featured on the soundtrack of the film In The Name Of The Father, Breatnach has recorded with Mary Black, Phil Chevron, Donovan, Mike Scott and Nigel Kennedy. In 1998, she recorded an album as a member of Donal Lunny's all-star band, Coolfin.
