Well, technically, it's only the video so far... I'm waiting for any other news on it, because I want more...

Well, technically, it's only the video so far... I'm waiting for any other news on it, because I want more... Huh? What do you mean? Didn't she do videos for "Kiss Your Mama" and "Perfect"? I finally found the album for a low enough import price and I have it now. You cannot ask for a better performance from Vanessa, and it's technically awesome. It's just that quite a few of the songs I just don't like that much: too much American "trendiness" in my opinion. I actually prefer the sound that she had with "Have a Look" and "Tent by the Sea." I'm kinda disappointed in myself that I feel this way, because I am a true admirer of Vanessa's talent.

. Some of the other songs seem to fit in TOO well with current American pop, if you get what I mean. Steve, Hard cold commercial reality in play here !! Sadly, but for nearly all "foreign" artists seeking to get mainstream release and indeed airplay in the States, you have to "homogenise" accordingly. The Corrs were, indeed, a case in point. They were accepted in most other major markets of the world on their own rights but only had the one hit in the States. An honest assessment of "Breathless" was that it was more a Mutt Lange number with the Corrs performing it and it could well have been written for his then missus. Re Ness; damned oath she has the talent to wipe so many pretenders in the US off the stage but I wouldn't be wagering the sheep station (or even the brick outhouse) on her getting the real opportunity over there. One hopes, though.

Re Ness; damned oath she has the talent to wipe so many pretenders in the US off the stage but I wouldn't be wagering the sheep station (or even the brick outhouse) on her getting the real opportunity over there. One hopes, though. You think that is what it is? That was one theory I had, too. It does seem that she was convinced by her new management to go the way of American RnB. Or did she choose that path on her own? It's sort of confusing to me. Is this the kind of music she REALLY wanted to make? If so, I'm surprised. The 2003 Melbourne Blues Festival recordings had me totally excited about her potential. I didn't ever expect that hiphop-sounding stuff from V.A. If not, then it flies in the face of the message (which I liked) of songs like "Take Me As I Am" and "True to Yourself". I liked the image she had of being counter-culture when it came to image and style. Yet, I read some articles in which V.A. seems to distance herself from the music she made in her Mark Holden days and even denigrate some of the music from that time. Hence my confusion: who is the real Vanessa Amorosi? The Corrs were, indeed, a case in point. They were accepted in most other major markets of the world on their own rights but only had the one hit in the States. An honest assessment of "Breathless" was that it was more a Mutt Lange number with the Corrs performing it and it could well have been written for his then missus. Excellent point. Honestly, during the period when "Breathless" was receiving lots of airplay in America - and I was hearing the song over a turned-down radio of a co-worker who tuned in everyday to a station that played "Breathless" a lot - I truly believed that I was hearing a Shania Twain song! The song didn't make enough of an impact on me to look into the music and discover the Corrs. (That didn't happen until a few more years went by and, in late 2003, I first heard Bono singing a duet called "When The Stars Go Blue" with this amazing-sounding female singer who I wanted to learn more about.) I didn't come to appreciate "Breathless" until watching Live in London and seeing the "Caroline angle". Once I saw this, a whole new appreciation for "Breathless" was born. Still, it has never been a favourite in spite of its big success in the States.

Here are some YouTubes that go back to the early 2000's. They really illustrate the amazing vocal range she has: "Every Time I Close My Eyes" HQ"Sometimes Happiness" HQHere's something a little more recent: a performance of "Get Off of My Cloud" with Ash Naylor from this February 14th on a show called RocKwiz: HQThat Ash Naylor guy is good! He was really good during the quiz show too.
