Kula Shaker are a band that I only recently found out about and just a few days ago made some posts in the "What are you liking right now" topic. As a lover of classic rock and the inventive music that came out of the late 1960's, I really like the sound of this band.
CURRENT BAND MEMBERS
Crispian Mills, vocals/guitar
Alonza Bevan, bass
Paul Winter Hart, drums
Harry Broadbent, Hammond organ (new to the band)
It's been 10 years since Kula Shaker first dropped in on the British music scene. They are best known for the 1996 multi-platinum album K, which became one of the fastest selling UK debuts ever.
Here is the band in a cover of Deep Purple's song "Hush":

However, their popularity would not last long, apparently owing in no small part some really ignorant and foolish behavior on the part of Mills in making a comment about the swastika, for which he has apologized and tried to explain as coming from his understanding of the symbol's meaning in India. Mills wrote, "I loath totalitarianism, far Right thinking, oppression of all forms, denial of human rights, and all things that would limit the free spirit of humankind. I stand for peace, love, generosity, and learning." Still the damage caused by his remarks had been done. Kula Shaker disbanded and they were silent for six years.
In 2006, the band created their own label in preparation for a new album Strangefolk. "We were inspired to make another album. The time was right,” muses Crispian Mills, "It's a time for musical independence, the power is going back to the artists. It's up to each of us what we make of the opportunity."
An interesting side-note is that lead singer Crispian Mills is the son of Hayley Mills who became famous from Disney movies like the original version of The Parent Trap.
Here is a recent peformance of the first two tracks from Strangefolk:

Learning of all the controversy surrounding this band, I still think that their music is good.
