From the Irish Independent 18th April.
Corrs' fiddler Sharon gets ready for solo run and tour
While The Corrs take an extended break, fiddle-player Sharon is currently recording her first solo album and preparing to go out on the road with a backing band this summer.
Contrary to erroneous reports elsewhere last week that drummer Caroline was planning to record and tour, The Diary can officially confirm that it is actually Sharon who is flexing her musical muscles.
"Sharon wrote 20 songs for the album and is in the middle of picking and recording the best ones," says the Corrs' agent Barry Gaster.
"It will be released later this year and she is also busy putting a band together to tour musical festivals from May to September.
"I don't know where the report that it was Caroline came from, but it was very wrong.
"Sharon will be singing lead vocals as well as playing the violin and the music will feature some pop/rock and traditional influences.
"She's really delighted with the progress so far," says Mr Gaster.
"She's raring to go."
Mum-of-two Sharon is married to barrister Gavin Bonner and they divide their time between Dublin and Belfast.
She has already confirmed appearances at several major festivals including Glastonbury, the Isle of Wight, the Savona festival in Italy, as well as more gigs in Holland, France and Spain.
A major Irish appearance will be announced in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the update, CW!
Very interesting little news piece with some good info!
I'm happy to read that Sharon wrote 20 songs! I also noted that Sharon will retain some of the trad influences, which makes me happy. The touring schedule seems sensible to me, particularly where it includes Spain and France - places where the Corrs and solo Andrea seemed to do very well.
So Barry Gaster is STILL the manager after all these years? That shows extreme loyalty.
So typical of the lazy, shiftless media these days to get it wrong and report that it was Caroline recording and touring.

Sharon HAS been confirmed for the Isle of Wight festival, which interestingly is run by John Giddings who was the Corrs UK agent. She will be performing on Sat 13th June. Tend to think IOW may be a better fit than Glasto (or at least at this stage with unreleased material). link: www.isleofwightfestival.com/news/dance-the-wight-away-65.aspx*modified by Steve to make the URL clickable*

I'm sure it's going to be an 'interesting' feeling for Sharon to be on stage handling lead vocals for every song performed at these gigs. Her frequent miming during the Corrs' performances of yore may intimate that she'll relish the opportunity. Whaddya think?

I'm sure it's going to be an 'interesting' feeling for Sharon to be on stage handling lead vocals for every song performed at these gigs. Her frequent miming during the Corrs' performances of yore may intimate that she'll relish the opportunity. Whaddya think? Yes, it's vey interesting. Given the symbiotic relationship of Sharon Corr and the camera, one could definitely see her relishing the limelight and, in more intimate settings, the "charm offensive" could well have the audiences totally "bought and sold". It does bring into play, however, the question of just what will be her mix between vocal and instrumental numbers. Sharon was/is a backing vocalist of the highest quality and baby sis should be eternally grateful to her (and Cazz) for showing her off so well. In it's own right, hers is a very pleasant sounding instrument and very effective in putting across certain numbers. Could the Corr's have had more solo numbers for her .... maybe ... I certainly prefer her Goodbye to Andrea's melodramatic shreiking. We do, however, need to realistically assess the qualities of her voice and it's capacity to carry an entire album. Sharon's voice has the lowest pitch of the 3 sisters and would probably be classified as a light contralto. She certainly does not possess the upper range of the younger sisters and it is certainly NOT a power instrument. This would lead one to suspect that she would NOT be best suited to belting one out and looking at her Corrs efforts; one would suspect softer pop or folk-based would be more suited. Her Dimming of the Day brought out a slight twang/nasal quality in her voice which suggested to me that she could explore a little "country cross-over" with success. Carrying an entire album on it's own vocally .... I think it may be a stretch. Mix some quality instrumentals in then me may have something. Duets with guest artists .... could definitely work ..... and she certainly has some goodwill/markers that she could call on !! I could be wrong but I have a suspicion that another old friend, Fiachra Trench ,may also be a collaborator and this may help enrich the sound. The right producer .... and she could have a "surprise" success given that she is unlikely to be targetting the mainstream. IOM is big but may be a better fit musically for her. Mention of Glastonbury is interesting (and certainly unconfirmed to date. Whilst an invite would be most flattering, I 'm not sure that she would necessarily be a "fit". Yes, the Corrs did Glasto in 99 and went over "a bomb" (it was my first live exposure to them and made me a fan) but somewhat different circumstances. So much talk of Sharon over the years has been based, superficially if understandably, on her beauty and immense charm. It's when you bother to look closer that you realise her instrumental proficiency and vocal talents. It's when you look at the Corrs CV and who wrote what that you also realise her songwriting abilities. Let's face it, the vast number of artists in the business would like to have songs like So Young, Radio and Goodbye, not to speak of instrumentals like Rebel Heart and Silver Strand, on their resume. We ARE talking of an unreleased album and there are many unanswered questions. She speaks of a backing band and we DO know aout two of them. I suspect that Jason Duffy will be another conscript. I am pleased by this in that she is working with people who have confidence in her and that she trusts implicitly both musically and personally. She is also far more secure "in her own skin" than Andrea and given that, and reasons above, I actually have more confidence in this one than with Andrea. The Caro "reports" are funny given that she is probably the most tied down of the lot and definitely make one chuckle at media laziness. What WILL be interesting in fact is whether we may see Caro around somewhere along the line. She DID front with Andrea in Spain and whilst it was part of "Operation Save Andrea's Ass" the audiences loved it. IF Sharon is going to be doing some European dates, one wonders whether we may just see her. The question of sibling involvement is an interesting one. Given the known qualities of Jim as a paino accompanist and the Shazz/Caro vocal mix; one could certainly lodge a strong artistic case .... may also depend on just how much she may have bullied them over the years !!

CW, it's very interesting to read your perspective on the album and the questions you ask are good ones. I suppose only time will give us the full answers. A lovely pic of her on the website. Wow! Nice photo! Thanks, Nyoman! Great to see you around here!
