I said myself, as we are worldwide many on this site, why not to become known what is for you the most beautiful songs of your countries in your languages.
I begin; tribute to all the society women by Julien Clerc, French singer very known:
Very beautiful songs who makes me pour a small tear every time, just because she there a who misses me a lot
Now, It's at you

Interesting topic, Nanard.
I'd put forth "Greensleeves" - since it's a very old song going back in time before 1580, yet never seems to fade away.
It doesn't hurt that "What Child Is This" shares the tune and is traditional song of Christmas time.
And if you watched all those, I'm impressed! ;D

what a magical song... thanks for the four choices, Steve... i'll go for Celtic Women, sounds more irish, i think (though Amy Nuttal has an awesome voice ) I will add "L'Hymne à l'Amour", by Edith Piaf and "Ma Fille" by Isabelle Boulay (originally sung by Serge Reggiani) Enjoy

Wow! Respect to those beautiful French songs! Edith Piaf is amazing. Another traditional song that seems to be a favourite is "The Water is Wide": Here's a version by Charlotte Church that shows the words: Here are some other covers of this very old song (also referred to as "O Waly, Waly"). If you watch them all, I will be astounded! Hayley Westenra: James Taylor: Órla Fallon: Eva Cassidy: Mary Black: Karla Bonoff: Joan Baez: Rhonda Vincent with Keith Urban: Niamh Parsons Lilith Fair: Maybe they like to cover this song because they don't have to pay any royalties.

Thanks, Nanard! I was not familiar with any of those songs. Often when there is a very successful French song, someone comes along and tries to translate it into English. Not so (apparently) in the case of your songs.
