Jim has made previous comments to this effect in the "local rag" so this essentially nothing new but we have had confirmation in the media from all four that they will be back.
Personally, I'm not 100% sure we'll see a new recording released during 2011 but what we may well see over that period is the band playing together in public again; especially for a good cause. Maybe that's a hint to Hellen Bach to get in her friend Sharon's ear !!

As much as I'd love to see / hear it.... I'm not getting my hopes up. It seems as though Jim is busy with his political activism, and it looks as though Sharon has some solo stuff in the pipeline for 2011. If Andrea's second solo album sees the light of day this year, or even if she takes some time off to be Mrs. Desmond for a while... the band won't have time to do much of anything together. -- Marie

Re Sharon; I agree that the earlier parts of 2011 may be concentrated on her solo project BUT I fear that it will take a considerable belt of good fortune for it to "take off" in any particular market. It may not be justice, but that is a cold commercial assesment. Is ANY intl label likely to release Andrea 2 ?? Wouldn't wager YOUR money let alone my own "ill-earned" on that. I DON'T see any Corrs album being released this year. Maybe they will start recording however my instinct is that here is a very good chance that we will see them performing together again this year. Again, I suggest that "a good cause" may be the opening they use for their re-emergence. Then again, what do I know ...

Re Sharon; I agree that the earlier parts of 2011 may be concentrated on her solo project BUT I fear that it will take a considerable belt of good fortune for it to "take off" in any particular market. It may not be justice, but that is a cold commercial assesment. Whether it commercially does well or not, I really think Sharon is going to continue working on music and doing what she can to stay in the public eye - whether it be via Twitter and he website or some other ways. Even if this album doesn't take off (and I kind of agree, although it's a shame because it's a supurb album) I think she's going to keep writing and recording. Sharon was ready to release independently if Warner didn't bite and I have no doubt that she'll do just that if that's what it takes to get her music out there. Is ANY intl label likely to release Andrea 2 ?? Wouldn't wager YOUR money let alone my own "ill-earned" on that. I wouldn't have thought so but... There's a new Twitter account that was only recently opened that's attributed to "Andrea Corr" - ACorr_official. There aren't any Tweets yet, but it links to www.andreacorr.com. When I went to that webpage, all it says is "solo album coming soon." I did that little JavaScript trick to see when a page was last updated (I figured this was from Ten Feet High) only to see that the page was updated in October 2010. Now, could this be a hoax that some "fan" has put together? Of course. But something tells me that it's not... I don't think it's someone posing as Andrea, otherwise they probably would have already Tweeted, pretending to be her. The other thing is that, right now, Andrea's in the spotlight in Ireland because of her role in Jane Eyre. A release at some point in the not so distant future could be helped by that role, and the fact that Andrea got good reviews. People who were not Corr fans but saw her in that play may be more likely to pick up a solo album by Andrea just out of curiosity. So... I wouldn't rule it out. -- Marie

I enjoyed reading your insights.
I think CW and Marie make excellent points about the variables that could forestall the re-formation of the band. One other would be Andrea deciding that it is time for her turn to take a few years off to raise and rear small children. While encouraged by the reports that have come from one or another of the Corrs, I've learned the art of Mushin ("no-mindedness"). Whatever comes - or if nothing comes - be ready.
With respect to Sharon's album, I feel confident that Sharon will have done just about all that she could do to get it released. Yet, even if her efforts to get her album released in certain markets were unsuccessful, the most important thing is that nevertheless she did manage to create an excellent album available for purchase by fans around the globe. She can hold her head high. My opinion is that she has encountered an industry that seems to have become a monstrosity.
During my lifetime, I cannot think of a more challenging time for recording artists. For whatever reason, I tend to get behind artists whom I feel are under-appreciated and face the "Leviathan" of trying to get their music heard against odds that are stacked against them. With a worldwide recession, theft of music through file-sharing, cash-strapped record labels, it is bad enough. Added to that is ascension of a scourge on the music industry: the application of business models to a form of expression that should be treated as art. Instead we get mass-marketed mediocrity... you know, the old "one billion (lousy) hamburgers served" approach. The cream isn't allowed to rise to the top because the "top" has been hijacked by money changers. The reality today is that commercial success and artistic success certainly do NOT go hand-in-hand. I watched the American Country Music Awards and could not believe how bad some of the music was. It's disappointing, particularly because we are aware that it is NOT really a problem of a shortage of talent but, instead, a function of misapplied corporate models being allowed to run amok.
I wish that somehow we could get back to the era of the independent DJ. One who made the decision to play a record for the fact that it's a good record rather than a record proven by market-research to fit with corporate marketing goals. I don't see it happening. Popular music once was a vehicle for social change that transformed our culture - and the whole world as a result. Now it's just an option that competes with other forms of entertainment, such as movies, video games and social networking. Much has changed - and not for the better, IMO.
