What's the meaning of "Ola"? Anyone willing to tell me please? How do you like this word? I love it very much because Andrea's voice sounds funny when she sings it(Especially in the "Queen of Hollywood" Home version) ;D

You mean the "hola!" in "Old Town" right? I don't know what it means. I already asked this question before, too. I like the low note in "Old Town" too, Wiku! It's sure a catchy little tune! But what's the "hola" all about? (U2 does the "hola in "Vertigo" too). I thought "hola" is SPANISH for "hello." Does it also mean something in Ireland? So, Wiku, I would like to know too!

Yes, you are right, hola means hello, hi, etc. But, I always thought, that she sings Olá. For me it was just a sort of exclamation, like Olé, or something like that. I never thought, that it has a special meaning. In my opinion it was an exclamation of joy, that she maybe did as a coincidence during one performance or during rehearsals and then she kept it, cause everyone liked it. She would have probably never thought, that it will make us think so hard about the meaning, haha ;D

You right, Ms Sabine!! Looks like it just an exclamation (Maybe "Ole" in Irish version). In the "Home" version, Andrea says "Ola" (or Hola) three times, more than in "Unplugged" version.

Ole is cheering in dutch, maybe also in other languages and Ola indeed sounds as hola in spanish. i think its rather meaningless as where Andrea says it in old town. But just for cheering I reckon.

Hi there , if Andrea sais Hola, it means hello in spanish, but if it`s an exclamation, it`s just an interjection. If it`s something in other language I have no idea.

She would have probably never thought, that it will make us think so hard about the meaning, haha ;D Hahaha! That's the truth. I even looked it up.... ola oil, Irish, Old Irish ola, Welsh olew, Old Welsh oleu, Breton eol; from Latin oleum, English oil.Oil?!! Hmmm..... OIL somehow doesn't seem to fit the song!! ;D I posted the question at the Corrs Club too and I had this fantasy wish that maybe Jim Corr might post an answer and put me out of my misery on this issue so I can get some sleep! Hahahahaha! Reading the replies, I don't think anybody knows for sure, except for maybe Andrea! Has anyone ever heard the Thin Lizzy version of "Old Town"? After all, the song was written by the late Phil Lynott, but I don't know for sure if "Ola" is in the Thin Lizzy version, since I have never heard it. It's probably just some interjection such as "Grease!!" Oil is close to Grease (don't you think?) and Grease! is the word. Is the word that you heard. It's got groove. It's got meaning! *going Corrazy*

I like the idea of it being an exclamation point saying "where is the girl?" The guy is looking around and he just can't find her anymore. Though I'm confused is it the guy or girl spending the money in the Old Town.

There were abt 3 "Holas" in Phil Lynott's original of Old Town so you it's definitely part of the song ..... not something added on by Andrea whilst doing her usual "crazy episode" Old Town. There is a clip of the Phil Lynott version to be found on You Tube.
