I never would have imagined that a keyboard player (mainly Hammond organ) for the monumental heavy rock band Deep Purple (the ones who ushered in the age of heavy metal with " Smoke On The Water") would would end up writing 21st Century classical lieder. Caro mentioned the current projects of Jon Lord to me a few years ago and I bought his album called Beyond The Notes (2004) in late 2006, one of the reasons being it had a song sung by Frida Lyngstad of ABBA fame. Here are some videos, if you ever want to sit down and here some beautiful music in the tradition of late 19th Century. "The Sun Will Shine Again" (with Frida Lyngstad of ABBA): ie.youtube.com/watch?v=SQzoEtA79lc"Pictured Within" featuring Scottish singer Miller Anderson: ie.youtube.com/watch?v=T4rmjNnro_Y&fmt=18"Wait A While" feature Sam Brown (yes, she of the song "Stop"): ie.youtube.com/watch?v=uCorCxM1FTI&fmt=18On Beyond the Notes, Sam Brown sings a beautiful song called "One From The Meadow" and Miller Anderson sings a great one called "November Calls". Sam Brown also wrote the lyrics to "The Sun Will Shine Again". It's not for everybody: I know that. But if you have any propensity for classical, I recommend his music!
