While I was gone, I missed the news about this interview. No one mentioned it to me, even though it contains some wonderful news in Andrea's last two answers!
"The Bridge": AlloCine meets Andrea Corr
Celebrities - October 26, 2006
Based on an original screenplay by Ludwig Shammasian, British film director Richard Raymond brings this highly anticipated and thrilling, dark tale to life. AlloCine meets main actress Andrea Corr and the rest of the crew!
AlloCine: How did you start your acting career? Why did you choose to become an actress ?
Andrea Corr: I started my career as an actress in The Commitments by Alan Parker. Then, I had the wonderful adventure with The Corrs and now I have the opportunity to act again. So that is very good. I am passionate about acting just as much as I am about the music.
AlloCine: How did you get involved into The Bridge?
Andrea Corr: My London agent at ICM gave me the script. I read it and immediately loved it. Then, I met Richard. And everything went off smoothly.
AlloCine: Why did you choose to do a short film after a lead part in "The Boys and Girl from County Clare" ?
Andrea Corr: Because I liked it. I really followed my instinct. I was feeling that I have to do it. And I just liked it. I don't care if it is a short film or a feature film and I really don't care if it is a big budget or not. There is no big deal with it. The only important thing is the story and how I feel about it. Short film or feature, it does not concern me at all. In the music, I have to be in control of everything, because this is "me". If I am telling a story this is my own story. I am representing. When I am acting, it's liberating because it's not "me". It's somebody else's story. I am other characters, I am not my own. I just have to represent them truthfully. In the music, I am very concerned about the video, the right tv-shows to do and anything. Basically, I just knew that it was gonna be a wonderful piece of art.
AlloCine: How did you work on the part of Mary? Did you do research?
Andrea Corr: I prepared for the part of Mary by just putting myself into it. I tried to create her personality. All this, is an attempt to redeem herself because she blames herself. What Mary goes through looks like something we all experienced to some extent in real life. We all have stories in our lives, we all have personal stories we feel overwhelmed and we feel guilt about it. It was a very emotional part.
AlloCine: Did you rehearse with Richard Raymond?
Andrea Corr: Not really. I just read through the script a bit. That was very spontaneous. We kind of went through it.
AlloCine: How many days of shooting did you have?
Andrea Corr: Maybe three or four.
AlloCine: Wasn't it too weird to work without Leonard Fenton ?
Andrea Corr: Richard had a very precise idea of the cinematic he wanted for the movie, the camera is very close to the face. It is so close to the face that it looks like you are looking at the other person in the eyes. Leonard would have been there, behind the camera, I would not have seen him. But that was a challenging experience.
AlloCine: What are your favourite movies ?
Andrea Corr: My favourite movie is Midnight Cowboy and I love 37°2 le Matin by Jean-Jacques Beineix, I just watched it the other night.
AlloCine: Who are your favourite directors ?
Andrea Corr: I love the Coen brothers, I love Woody Allen, Alan Parker. I love Wong Kar-Wai and obviously Baz Luhrmann. There's a lot.
AlloCine: Who is your favourite actor or actress ?
Andrea Corr: I love Meryl Streep. In The Devil Wears Prada, she is so great.
AlloCine: You are shooting a feature film. Can you give us some details ?
Andrea Corr: I was supposed to but the shooting was postponed a little bit. So I don't know when we are gonna shoot. This is a thriller called Knife Edge with a French actor named Melvil Poupaud. I met him in Cannes, he is lovely. The movie deals with a husband who is in despair because he had lost his business and he plans to drive his wife insane.
AlloCine: What are your projects ?
Andrea Corr: For the moment, I don't have other movie scheduled. I am reading many scripts. I am working on my own album at the moment. It is gonna be released next year.
AlloCine: I hope this is not the end of The Corrs ?
Andrea Corr: No, not for good. For the moment, they all are busy with their babies.
