The article Andrea Corr Goes Solo, which appeared yesterday generated a lot of discussion and much disappointment among fans hoping to see Andrea in concert. It has a wrong album release date (which is in June, not May) and it reports that there are no plans for a tour :
Andrea Corr goes solo

Andrea Corr is suffering from hayfever. The youngest of the Corr family is striding through a park as she speaks to me, enjoying the sounds, sights, but possibly not the smells of north-west London.
It's this sort of people watching - "one of my favourite hobbies"- her reading and her experiences of real life which have influenced her first debut album, according to the petite popstrel.
"I see it as a very story-based album," she begins. "Like a girl walking through life and just looking around her, telling what she sees." Dispelling the myth that she writes all her songs in the bath, ("God, I'd look like a prune after this album," she giggles), Andrea is clearly extremely passionate about her edgier material.
Unlike the easy-listening singalong songs she and her family are famed for with the Corrs, Andrea's latest offering, entitled Ten Feet High - "Because I wish to be that tall," she says dryly, before explaining that it's the title of one of the tracks - due out May 28th, is more gritty, less fluffy and decidedly "out of my comfort zone".
"I really want everyone to listen to this with an open ear," she stresses, admitting that the record company are a little unsure of how her legions of fans will react to this very un-Corrs like album.
Andrea tells me that she is immensely proud of everything the Corrs produced but when the opportunity arose at the end of 2005 for her to write her own material, she jumped at it.
"I already had a bunch of material that wasn't right for the Corrs at that point and what with the girls [sisters Caroline and Sharon] and Jim off starting families I thought, 'this is fate'."
The Corrs announced their hiatus from music in 2005 after both Caroline and Sharon fell pregnant. Jim also has a daughter but despite efforts to start a new project with the band, they realised it was more important to be with their new families.
"Caroline tried [to return to the studio] but with Jake [her son] it was too difficult y'know? I think it was mainly because our mum gave us everything when we were growing up and the girls wanted to do the same."
Declaring that the family life wasn't quite for her yet, ("this album is my first born," she jokes) Andrea took the chance given to her by her record company Atlantic Records to embark on a solo career.
Introduced to her producer Nellee Hooper by executive producer and close celebrity pal Bono, Andrea was able to embrace a new kind of music; satirical, analytical and honest.
Describing Nellee Hooper as more of a director of music than a producer, Andrea stresses that where she brought the lyrics and the melody to the songs, Hooper surrounded them with "musical pictures" and gave them depth. "I really feel like this is our project," she adds.
Her first single, Shame On You, due out June 11th, is a form of protest song about the futility of war. She drew inspiration from Sebastian Faulks' Bird Song - a novel about the Great War - and the near endless press coverage of young, 20-something soldiers who are being killed fighting abroad.
"It's about these men and women who go off to war are leaving behind partners they will never marry and children they will never have," Andrea said, emphasising that it isn't political or judgemental, just an observation.
The only cover on the album is Squeeze's Take Me I'm Yours, which was found by rummaging through Nellee's vinyl collection. Andrea wasn't entirely keen on the idea of including a cover version on her first album, but listening to the advice of Nellee, she acquiesced and soon found that as soon as she heard Squeeze's iconic tune, she was convinced.
While there are no current plans for a tour, Andrea is happy to just be promoting her debut album and hopes that people like as much as she does. "It's not like 'the real me' or anything, but it is different and I love it."
