Obviously, natural disasters are not my favourite post topic but, since the recent 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Indonesia tears at my heart and causes me great concern, I wanted to say that my thoughts and prayers are with those who are suffering on the island of Java. I didn't want to just ignore this since it affects me personally. In recent weeks, I have been watching recent events near the city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia very closely since the eruption of Mt. Merapi. I am worried about a dear friend of ours (unnamed out of respect for that friend's wishes) who lives very near the epicenter of this earthquake that is known to have claimed over 5,000 lives as of the time of this post. Up to 35,000 homes and buildings in and around the city of Yogyakarta have been reduced to rubble and there are tens of thousands who are now homeless and forced to forage for food in heavy rains. I ask that we keep these people in our thoughts and prayers and perhaps consider a donation to an agency that is assisting the victims of this disaster. Indonesia has suffered greatly in recent years, including the militant bombings, bird flu outbreaks and the massive earthquake and tsunami on 24 December 2004 that killed hundreds of thousands.

All over the weekend I only cuaght the news about an earthquake briefly on the radio. I was shocked but had no idea about the details. This morning for the first time, I saw the news on tv and was more than shocked. Steve already told me yesterday that Yogyakarta was affected but when I actually heard that town being mentioned on tv and when I saw all those pictures I was captured in a motionless silence. I am hoping so much that our dear friend (and family) is alright!!!! I am so sad that things like this happen all over again.

You two are so right. I was so shocked when I heard about the earthquake. Fortunately they get help quickly, but there are still people who have no food, no water, and no doss. Hopefully everything is alright with Wiku. I'm really worried about him and his family.

The Earthquake happened in my CITY. It destroy our city, our economy, but it didn't destroy our unity. There are more than 6000 people died because the Earthquake, destroyed more than 300,000 houses, and milllions people hurts. Fortunately, our family were save. Our house still in good condition, and we didn't lose any material. After the earthquake, there were no electricity power in my city. The worst thing, there were robbery every where. After the condition could be controlled (about 3 days after earthquake) we had to rebuild our city. Most of buildings in our city destroyed, and there were lots of dead corpse to evacuate. Now, everything begin to build, and we have to start it from zero point. We have to rebuild, recover, and cure the victims. Our economy drop into worst point, so we have to recover it. Well, there are much things to do, but WE ARE NOT GIVING UP. We still have our hope, our dreams. We don't want to lose it, and we want the best for our city. As an Indonesian, i promise that i will build my city as soon as possible. Thank you very much for helps from the US, Germany, and other country. We really thank you, and i promise, we will return it someday. Once again, WE ARE NOT GIVING UP!!! I promise that our city will be better than berfore!!! I believe it's only bitter beginning for sweet ending. Unfortunately, youngs (Especially children) still have great trauma about the Earthquake. They still afraid, and they become depressed. Me and our organization, Teladan Junior Red Crescent, want to recover them from their trauma. So, if you want to help us, would you like to wrote a letter/ postcard to our friends in Indonesia, or send story books or something, please? It will show to them that they are not alone, and they still have family in the other country. If you are willing to help us, you can send it to : TELADAN JUNIOR RED CRESCENT Jalan Lowanu Gang Dahlia UH 6 No. 686 D Sorosutan, Yogyakarta, INDONESIA

Thank you very much for your attention, Miss swantje, Mr. Steve, Mr. Scott, and Miss Caro!!! Me and my Red Crescent organization was very happy to know that you are really care with us. Everything is under control now, and i hope it will back to normal soon. Here's the pic of our Red Crescent organization : I'm the boy that wear glasses, in the middle of the photo. All of us well, but some of them become homeless. Before the earthquake, we were only organization in school. But after it, we have to help the hospital, evacuate victims, take care of children, and supply the logistic. We spent almost all day in the hospital. It sounds hard to do, but it was great experience. Now, we can back to school because we leave our job to the volunteer, that help us very kindly. Unfortunately, Mt. Merapi is erupting today!!! Maybe we have to go to help the National Red Crescent to control the camp. Once again, thank you very much for your support!! All of you are very nice friend

You are such a great servant to your nation and its people, and you make me very proud. I am so impressed with your optimism, your commitment to create a better future, and your hopes of rebuilding your city into something better than before. I hope and believe that one day you will be a leader in your country because you already exhibit the best qualities of leadership. God bless you and protect you in all that you do! The earthquake in Indonesia is terrible-these people have been through so much. However, I do have a problem. Every time something happens in Indonesia, our Government sends money to help. That is fair enough, because they hardly have enough themselves to fix the damage, but we gave them (I am Australian) one BILLION dollars after the Tsunami, and we keep handing out more. I have to wonder, why?
I would like to know if anyone else can see my point, here...
