Good news! Sharon has announced at her website ( www.sharoncorr.com/its-reality/) that she'll be releasing a single "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" in the UK and Ireland on 6 September 2010, and the album Dream of You a week later on 13 September 2010. Release dates for the rest of the world to follow. Here are the partners in distribution: Warner UK for worldwide release. Rhino for UK release. Warner Music Ireland for Ireland

Yay, I'm so excited for the release! Although.... I'm not so sure that I like the release date. That's the week school starts so I go back to work, LOL! ;D Kidding aside, I'm absolutely thrilled that there are release dates listed. And it's perfectly fine by me that the only dates listed are for the UK & Ireland. As long as there's a physical copy of the album, I can order it. Now, about the choice of single - I have to say, I'm a bit surprised. Definitely not disappointed - but surprised. First of all, I thought at some point in the past, Sharon commented that EGTLS may or may not be on the album since it's another cover. I guess it's on the album now! And, if one consideres M&MTB to be the second single, and this is the third single - then it's two covers in a row. I'd love to know who was pushing for EGTLS as the single - Sharon or the record company. For Sharon's sake, I certainly hope it does well. Next point - being that this is the single, will it be released physically? Or is it a digital only single? I know in this day and age it seems as though digital is the way to go. Unfortunately, for those of us who collect CDs (guilty as charged!!!) it stinks. And not only that, I sure hope that if it is released digitally, it'll be available to everyone, regardless of where you are. That was the most disappointing thing about the INAD release - it was released as a single 11 months ago, and I (along with many other fans worldwide) don't have a copy and can't get a copy because it wasn't available digitally in my part of the world. Now, assuming that EGTLS is on the album, I'm wondering if some songs that we've heard of will be left off of the album. And if they are, will they be released as B-sides? And the circular argument continues.... if they're digital B-sides, will everyone be able to get ahold of them? And one last thing... I just read an interview from Billboard.com with Jon Bon Jovi. In the interview, Jon is asked about people filming concerts and putting them up on YouTube. And while he didn't seem upset about it or anything, he made a very valid point. He commented that he would have loved to have played some of the five new songs that he and Richie Sambora wrote for the upcoming Greatest Hits album for a private fan club something or other to get some opinions. But, he said that he wouldn't do it because he knew it would end up on YouTube and he didn't want the songs out there publicly yet. Is it possible that some of the songs that we've seen YouTube footage of Sharon performing aren't on the album for that reason? Maybe songs like Ears Painted On or Over It - could it be that they won't be on the album, but studio versions could be used as B-sides or bonus tracks? I'm interested in hearing other thoughts... -- Marie

Some very similar thoughts, Marie.
1. Great that we actually have solid release dates. It has been great that Sharon & Gav have invited us all along for the journey & provided us with peeks at what's going on/the creative inspirations & who's been involved. Their commitment, along with that of so many of their "team" has been very obvious ... one only hopes they receive due reward.
2. EGTLS as single. Gotta say, it would not have been my choice but musical taste is totally subjective & others may think differently. Whilst not loathing the song, I don't love it either & may have looked at a more upbeat number as a counterbalance to INAD. Marie's point abt label "input" on such a decision may or may not have any credence ... we may never know. A key point will be just how flexible Sharon and/or the label will be re tailoring the peak single to particular markets. If they take a "one size fits all" then they are screwed whereas some markets may take to INAD/others may bite at something more up-tempo.
3. Physical v digital release. Would definitely like to know more as I too would prefer a physical CD. Had other circumstances not impacted, I actually would be over in Europe now & may still have been there at release time but "dems da breaks". I'm not really fussed abt the single per se, more the album itself.
4. Da Boss HAS intimated in her Tweets that there will be some bonus tracks for some releases (Spain seems to be a case in point). Wonder how that will pan out.
5. Interesting point you made about the "airing" of proposed album material live prior to release. The concern abt YT "capture" can have some validity but circumstances vary from artist to artist and I doubt that JBJ's concerns are those of Sharon. The feeling I've had is that she has actually welcomed the feedback re the new songs she's "aired". Then again, I can claim no insider knowledge of the mind of Mrs Bonnar & could be very wrong.
6. The potential cover that I'm actually a tad curious about is "Go Your Own Way". Apparently, it went over a "bomb" live & I wonder if there was any temptation to throw it on the album or just keep it as a live number. I actually liked the capture from the Horslips gig and think, with first rate b-vox for the choruses, it could be massive as it's a good song for Sharon .... and Anto's outro had me turning green with envy. If not, a returning Corrs would be crazy if they DON'T throw it on their setlist.
7. Will we hear about the "big party" ?? Will HIN be let out ... or will it be left to certain other male colleagues to fly the flag for male misconduct ??

As far as INAD goes - I'm guessing that they're done with that as far a single goes. Why else would they be giving away the promos if there was the possibility that they could be used in another market? That being said... unless they re-release it if it all of a sudden picks up steam once the album gets released. And as far as the party goes - would love to hear about it. ;-) Actually, I'd love to be a fly on the wall! LOL! -- Marie :-)

I agree that the Korgis cover, "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime" is an interesting choice for the second single, but if it sounds good and the song is familiar to a lot of fans, it might serve as a door-opener in different parts of the world. There are the versions by Zucchero and Vanessa Carlton that were successful Europe in places like France (as I understand). In Holland, the song was covered by Krezip. In the UK, the song was covered by groups like The Dream Academy. In the U.S., Beck covered it.
In some parts of the world, cannot "It's Not a Dream" be revived as a radio single tied closely with the release of the album? In the past at this forum as well as above, Wombat has made good arguments in favour of tailoring the choices for singles to the particular markets throughout the world. As he explained, countries in Asia may be more amenable to "It's Not a Dream" whereas another country might go for the rockier "Ears Painted On." As stated above by others, it might require some flexibility among the different markets worldwide to enhance the success of the album as a whole. Perhaps Sharon and her people can seek input from the fans themselves. Then again, this might create logistical headaches when compared to the more simple worldwide release of the same single.

Mathias made a very interesting post on another thread along the lines of releasing covers as singles. I'm very much in accord that IF they are of high quality and more importantly the artist has put their own distinctive stamp on the cover, then why not. The Corrs themselves proved this with Dreams. Mathias also voiced an opinion that Smalltown Boy would have met that description. Agree in bucketloads !! I'm probably one of the fortunate fans who actually caught the full album version when they posted it as a teaser on Shaz's site for a few hours. I hear hundreds of tracks every year and hence am rather circumspect in my use of superlatives. It was one of only 2-3 WOW tracks I heard during 2009. Sharon's vision for this track is very different to the original and along with Fiachra Trench & Billy Farrell created something truly beautiful. I feel it COULD be a sneaky success in some markets but I can understand that it may not be the easiest to put over properly outside of concert settings. It IS, however, too beautiful a track to go to waste. A smart TV or movie producer could do worse than utilise it OR also be used as part of a public campaign by a charity or NGO. On the score of singles in general, whilst there may be potential for one or two tracks to be surprise successes in a couple of markets; I feel that Sharon may be looking more for success for the album itself as a "complete body of work" rather than hoping for a hit single or two & just padding out an album with "filler". Then again, I could be very very wrong & the recipient of a cross global "bow strike" As regards global release, I think it is good news that Warner have been prepared to consider this especially as this album is of a genre that is nigh impossible to categorise. The actual scope of release I feel will be a wait n see exercise .... if Spain "bites" then one feels that she may be allowed to test the Spanish speaking markets. What does help her case is her demonstrated willingness & commitment to get out there & do the hard promotional work herself. If nothing else, last year's British promotional slog gave clear evidence that Sharon is one of the most polished & charming media performers going around. Can the fans help ?? Most definitely ... and actually the most effective way may be that of looking closely at what TV & radio programs in their particular markets may be good vehicles for Sharon to be seen & heard. Certain folk DO tend to lurk around various corners of the net & if they see something interesting, one suspects they/their support staff may investigate whether there may be any value in the suggested show .... and whether it's worth discussing with Warner re trying to get her on.

I'd love to know who was pushing for EGTLS as the single - Sharon or the record company. For Sharon's sake, I certainly hope it does well. I don't know....I think almost every decision about this album (and her solo career) is made by her (and Gavin). She has mentioned several times this project is from her heart and that's quite important to her. Also to have total freedom and not having decisions made by a bunch of big honchos. Now of course, since she has a deal with a major like Warner, we can't rule out the have made certain "demands" or guidelines. As we don't know them, it's pure speculation. It could be that the label has advised to release this song as a single, but I think in the end, it's mostly her choice. Next point - being that this is the single, will it be released physically? Or is it a digital only single? I know in this day and age it seems as though digital is the way to go. Unfortunately, for those of us who collect CDs (guilty as charged!!!) it stinks. Unfortunately I think, especially with Warner backing her up, the chances for a retail single are slim to none. Which is of course logical from a business point of view. But from the fan's perspective it's a disappointment. But maybe team Sharon has learned from the situation with INAD (that fans would love to have physical copies) and somehow they can give away/sell a limited amount of copies to the fans (through her official site or something). Now, assuming that EGTLS is on the album, I'm wondering if some songs that we've heard of will be left off of the album. And if they are, will they be released as B-sides? And the circular argument continues.... if they're digital B-sides, will everyone be able to get ahold of them? Well I think in the end, we got about...14 titles or something? So yeah some songs are bound to be cut from the album. Here's hoping every one of them will see the light of day by releasing them as B-sides....on a single, through iTunes, in certain territories, etc. Would be a shame not to hear them! Then again....maybe Sharon wants to release a 2nd solo album or she may use a song or 2 for the next Corrs album... And one last thing... I just read an interview from Billboard.com with Jon Bon Jovi. In the interview, Jon is asked about people filming concerts and putting them up on YouTube. And while he didn't seem upset about it or anything, he made a very valid point. Maybe songs like Ears Painted On or Over It - could it be that they won't be on the album, but studio versions could be used as B-sides or bonus tracks? I don't know...I think it's a bit far-fetched. IMO such a thing only creates a buzz, which is positive. Take 'Borrowed Heaven' for example. The Corrs performed a couple of new songs (Long Night, Angel, Goodbye) at a few acoustic shows sometime before the album was released. I remember everyone got even more excited for the new album (I know I repeated the 30 sec clip of 'Long Night' a million times LOL). It totally depends on the view of each artist really... Bon Jovi could't easily performed them acoustically too, or with the music altered. It would certainly be a shame for those songs to be left off the album, just because people have heard them live already...If a studio track would've been leaked that's another thing..

Yeah I agree with this... A lot of artists do this (The Corrs themselves have to a certain degree). Also agree with the song choices..."It's Not A Dream" would definately appeal in Asian markets (as they love love songs). "Ears Painted On" or "Over It" would be great for Spain, etc. As singles can be released digitally these days, I think it would be less of a problem/headache than before... It IS, however, too beautiful a track to go to waste. A smart TV or movie producer could do worse than utilise it OR also be used as part of a public campaign by a charity or NGO. Now that's a great idea! The song is definately suited to fit as a film score/soundtrack. Maybe for a Brokeback Mountain type of film/series? It's definately a shame to let such a beautiful track go to waste...

I had no idea that many people covered Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime! I knew about Zucchero, but not the other versions. Gotta think that Beck would have an interesting take on it, as he's so innovative with what he does. Steve, I like the idea of tailoring single releases to different markets. But I wonder if it would all be done at the same time i.e. INAD in one country at the same time as EGTLS in another country. I wonder if it would be more productive to choose a single and start to market it all over. Really hit the places where it's taking off, and then once that starts to wear off, market the next single. Then try to really work that single in the markets where the first one didn't take off. My head is spinning just thinking of it! All of this makes me wonder how Sharon is planning on conquering the world, as she has said she wants to do. I'm assuming the UK & Ireland are going to be first, with Spain shortly after. But I'd love to know when the US, Asia, Australia, South America, and the rest of Europe are going to fall under her spell. -- Marie

Then again, I could be very very wrong & the recipient of a cross global "bow strike" I don't think so. I've gotten the impression that the Bonnars like Wombats. And, besides, I think you're spot on with your assessment of albums versus singles. The Corrs always acknowledged that they were an "album" band rather than a "single" band - hence Breathless being their only UK #1 single, in spite of logging plenty of time on the upper reaches of the album charts. What does help her case is her demonstrated willingness & commitment to get out there & do the hard promotional work herself. If nothing else, last year's British promotional slog gave clear evidence that Sharon is one of the most polished & charming media performers going around. Absolutely. No matter where Sharon has been, one has certainly gotten the impression that whomever she was with adored her. Can the fans help ?? Most definitely ... and actually the most effective way may be that of looking closely at what TV & radio programs in their particular markets may be good vehicles for Sharon to be seen & heard. It could be that the label has advised to release this song as a single, but I think in the end, it's mostly her choice. That's exactly what I mean. If Sharon was still working independently, then she could call the shots. And Warner may be allowing her to call some or even most of the shots - but there's bound to be things that come up that the record company pushes for, even if Sharon doesn't totally agree. I wonder of EGTLS is one of those things. I'm sure that the record company had some say in what the next single was going to be. And it still strikes me that it's this song - a song that we weren't even sure was going to be on the album. But maybe team Sharon has learned from the situation with INAD (that fans would love to have physical copies) and somehow they can give away/sell a limited amount of copies to the fans (through her official site or something). Team Sharon would make a lot of fans very happy if they chose to do that! (Hint, hint, people lurking on the board! ) Hypothetically speaking, if Sharon was going to release a physical single that was only available for purchase through her website, how would that impact the song on the charts? Would those sales make an impact if they were great enough, or is a limited retail space not counted on the charts? -- Marie

Spanish-speaking and we should add Portuguese, too.
Andrea had a warm reception in Spain. Sharon hasn't forgotten that and her appearance a few month back with Álex Ubago clearly showed that Spain is a major focus. I think Brazil will also be given focus, as well. She has many avid fans in Mexico too.
