It was a nice move that they allowed this demo to "see the light of day".
Tar and feather me for being a heretic but I confess that I have a major preference for this demo by Sharon over Andrea's vocals on this number. To my mind; Sharon's softer, quieter vocals have a rather reflective, wistful feel that is absent in Andrea's performances.
Again, this view may be controversial to some, but I have felt that Andrea started to really "oversing" badly during the BH period and to a degree still seems to be. This would have been an ideal vehicle for Andrea "in her prime" but her shouting is somewhat off-putting and she was singing too much into her "upper register" which is not "her money voice" which has really been the warmth & richness of her mid-range.
Understand that some may differ, but I would suggest perhaps they view Live in Geneva then compare her vocals in say LR, Unplugged or LIL.

I agree that it's a really special recording because of the rarity of hearing Sharon on leads. I am thrilled that it was released, though I wasn't happy with all the particulars of the iTunes-only release.
I have talked to quite a few people who prefer Sharon's demo over Andrea's. While I am a great admirer of Sharon's demo with that velvety pure voice of hers, I feel that Andrea gives her finest performance on the acoustic version from the Angel single. I can really feel that angst in her voice. That one should not be overlooked.
Regarding Andrea's voice, it's probably not as controversial as you think. I certainly agree that she has struggled at times. I noticed it the most during the brief promo period for Home. There was one "cringe-worthy" performance of "Lagan Love" on the Late Late Show in about November 2005, which showed that she either didn't warm up her voice or that she had a cold. I think she might have had a cold because her eyes were really watery. She just wasn't her normal self, put it that way.
I do feel that Andrea's voice steadily improved as the gigs in support of Ten Feet High progressed. I agree that she may have lost some of her range, particularly in the higher registers.

1. Agree regarding the means of the release.
2. If you are referring to the EPK, then I can agree on that performance. My point is that for many of her performances that I 've tracked, she really oversang (nigh shouted at times). Maybe some people equate shouting (or anguished moaning at the other extreme) as emotionally eloquence. As a general rule for this song, I find Sharon's demo considerably more eloquent and subtly effective than the vast bulk of Andrea's.
3. Andrea's voice. I actually have had similar thoughts regarding her higher range. My view is that during the BH tour, for whatever reason, she really started "oversinging" a lot and singing far more into that higher register. Whilst the oversinging not really inevidence in Home; I found that a lot of both it and Ten Feet High is set in her high register. I just don't think that that part of her voice is her strength.
Her voice can be a very emotive instrument and I feel that most of her best work is actually where she hasn't forced it .... and let the warmth of her voice sell the song. At times, she has actually reminded me of Karen Carpenter (and that is a very high compliment in my books with regards to female vocalists) with relation to tone and intimacy.
Re the 10 Feet High gigs, some of the clips I've seen do bear out your point as she certainly seemed to be singing "easier". Maybe they were more intimate gigs, maybe she was feeling far more confident performing with friends she trusts implicitly.
