Celebs turn out in force for Corr charity
Pop star Sharon Corr was a big hit in Belfast last night as she hosted a fundraising charity dinner for underprivileged families in South Africa.
The violinist threw a glittering Bollinger champagne party and auction at James Street South restaurant in Belfast to raise thousands of pounds for a building initiative in the township of Imizamo Yethu.
Also at the party were Sharon's husband, barrister Gavin Bonnar, her brother Jim and his girlfriend, former Miss Northern Ireland and Miss UK Gayle Williamson.
Comic May McFettridge auctioned a number of top prizes for the 75 guests from the world of business and commerce.
Among the lots up for grabs were a five-star trip to see The Corrs in Monaco, an original Terry Bradley painting, a luxury pamper package from Paul Stafford and dinner for two at Gary Rhode's exclusive London restaurant cooked by the TV chef himself.
Guests, who paid £150 a ticket to attend the dinner, were shown footage of the work done by the Irish Township challenge, a project by Dublin property developer Niall J Mellon.
Over the past three years he has sent hundreds of Irish builders to Cape Town to build homes for the shanty town dwellers.
This year Niall is hoping to encourage local bricklayers and plasterers to help the town of Imizamo Yethu during Building Week in November.
Sharon said she was delighted with the turnout. "It's been a brilliant evening for a worthwhile cause and I'm very happy and proud that we've raised so much money," she said.

I guess it is more likely that the author actually meant Montreux and maybe miced it up somehow...what do you think?
