Here's an interview with the Bridge director-it seems the movie will be in color.
What interpretative quality would you value the most out of Andrea Corr's work in the movie?
Casting someone like Andrea Corr in a film is quite exciting as many people would be eager to see exactly what she has to offer as an actress. Andrea has this amazing quality and talent that just draws you in - she has a very strong persona and brings an incredible warmth and cinematic depth to her character Mary in THE BRIDGE. She's not afraid to question a scene and build on what has already been written - which as a director is great input and just adds to a better movie.
What made you come up with Andrea Corr to interpret Mary? Do you find in her any similarities to Mary?
At times I found Andrea telling me more about Mary then I knew myself - she took on board that character and made it her own. My casting director mentioned Andrea Corr to me and as soon as she did it just felt right - and soon after we send her the script - everything just fell into place.
During the shooting of the movie, were there any outstanding anecdotes about Andrea?
It's funny because the film takes place one very late and cold night. On Andrea's first day of filming, she has just flew back from New York and the premiere of Boy's From County Clare - she was completely exhausted - but then so is her character - so it all helped.
In Mary's story, she has to save herself from an emotional experience, so in Richard Raymond's story have you ever lived any experiences that have been an inspiration for you to make this movie, and that you wanted to transmit to us?
I wanted to make a film that made you completely forget yourself and the world for a moment. A story that you could connect with, share emotions and experience what the characters would go through. I desire films that think outside the box, that are larger than life - but yet are small and heartfelt. Regardless of the length of the film, the audience should feel challenged and respected - their imaginations should be explored through what we choose to, and not to, reveal. I found what I was looking for in THE BRIDGE. We all have our stories to tell and I just felt that I connected with this one - it's really about forgivness and letting go.
In an old interview you mentioned that you had the idea in your head for a lot of years, why did it take so long to make this project? Was it that you couldnĀ“t find the right interprets for it?
A film like this costs a lot of money - and as a young film maker it is hard to raise the money for a movie. I didn't want to make the film unless it was done right - so it just took time to get it to that point.
The initial timing of the movie was of 18 minutes, could you please explain to us what made you add another 12 minutes more to the movie?
The final length of the BRIDGE is now 25min - we had to shorten it to fit various international film festival rules.
Is there a reason for recording the movie in black and white?
It is not in black and white - the film is is full colour. It's just the promotional pictures that are in B & W.
During the recording of the movie, what would you say was the toughest part to do, the surroundings, the lighting, the acting scenes, etc?
The hardest part is getting exactly what I imagined in the time that I have. Everything combines to make one part - but time is never on our side as everything is just so expensive.
What message do you want to send across or do you want to transmit to the people who watch "The Bridge"?
I hope it means different things to different people. For me the film is very spiritual.
What made you choose a singer over an actress?
She is an actress - remember back to the commitments - she was first an actress.
Why did you decide to make a movie about such a difficult subject as suicide?
The film really isn't about suicide - that's just the back story - the real story is one of forgivness.
Did you always know that you wanted to be a director?
Always - since I was a little boy. I sneaked off school and sneaked into the big film studios and watched the big movies getting made.
Where exactly was the movie shot? Was it in a studio or in the outside?
We built and filmed everything at Sheppertom Film Studios, London. Batman, Troy, Harry Potter & Gladiator were all shot there as well - so it's great to become part of a wonderful history.
Is there any particular reason why you choose The Cranberries as the main theme for the trailer and obviously for the film?
The Cranberries are not in the real film - they were just used for the teaser trailer. The offical music for the film is very different and incredibly beauitful.
