I just wanted to put in a good word for this incredible singer from Australia. In my opinion, she has one of the most virtuosic pop voices I have ever heard and sings with an authenticity and authority that is lacking in some of the girl singers that are so popular here in the U.S. She has one of the greatest vocal ranges of any singer that I have ever heard. This gal has got some pipes!!! I would compare her to a Pat Benatar or Janis Joplin, but it's hard to make comparisons. At her young age, now 23, I think that her best work is still ahead... On September 15, 2000, I was watching the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympic Games in Sydney on television. A 19-year-old Australian girl took the stage and belted out a song called "Heroes Live Forever." The performance literally gave me the goosebumps! I made a mental note to remember her name, "Vanessa Amorosi." I learned about her via the internet, because, just like the Corrs, she has a hard time getting any exposure in the United States, although she did release one single in 2001 ("Shine"/"Absolutely Everybody") which I bought immediately. I understand that she has had some success in Germany. Several months later, at her website, I downloaded Vanessa singing a cover of "(Take Another) Piece of My Heart." WOW!! She is also an outstanding blues singer, and she was a featured performer at the 2003 Melbourne Blues Festival. She is definitely her own person, and is not into being "trendy" like some other female singers of her generation. To her, it's all about a passion for the music. Kinda like the Corrs. Recently, on the 5th and 6th of March 2005, Vanessa opened for Bryan Adams (his "Room Service" tour) at a live outdoor festival called "A Day on the Green" in the wine country of New South Wales. (How 'bout that, Caro!) Here is her website: www.vanessaamorosi.com/Message board is here: amorosi.org/

She is very pretty! After the 2002 bali bombings, vanessa bombarded the government with phone calls, she kept asking them, begging them to let her sing, in the concert to raise money for the victims. she got her wish and sang her heart out! vanessa is also an aniaml lover, she has horses, cats and dogs, even a camel! she goes to the animal market each week, and every week she cant help but bring home another pet! she has such a huge heart and is so loving and caring, it's a shame she is no linger singing.

thanks do much for those pics! what i really love about vanessa is that she is her own person. she has been told by some producers to lose weight, and she basically told them to shove it. i love how she is happy with her body, and doesn't feel the need to loose weight.

Vanessa Amorosi had replaced her management, as discussed in the following article:Ralph Carr Management signs Vanessa Amorosi By Christie Eliezer Jan 27, 2006, 19:00 GMT
Melbourne-based Ralph Carr Management on Tuesday (Jan. 24) signed 24-year old Australian soul-blues singer Vanessa Amorosi to his artist stable.
'I have been in awe of Vanessa`s voice since she released her first single,' says Carr, who guided singer Tina Arena and singer songwriter Rick Price to global success. He currently manages multi-platinum singing soul diva Kate Ceberano.
Carr told Billboard.biz he will shop her demo tapes to labels, publishers and producers in the United States 'to make the album she should have made a long time ago.'
She was discovered singing in a cabaret restaurant by her first management team, TV producer Jack Strom and record producer Mark Holden of MarJac Productions.
Amorosi enjoyed phenomenal success after being signed as a 16-year old in 1999. Her second single 'Absolutely Everybody' was a chart-topper in Australia that year for Sydney-based Transistor Music, and a Top 5 hit in six European territories, where she was distributed by Universal Music.
Her debut album 'The Power' (2000) was certified four times platinum in Australia for sales of 280,000 units. It went gold in Germany, where she won best international newcomer at the Viva Comet Award mid-2001.
She also made her mark with performances at the opening ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and the closing ceremony of the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002.
Amorosi's self-penned track 'Shine' was the most broadcast Australian song of 2002, according to the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia. Her last album 'Change' was released in 2003 to a lukewarm reaction.A big fan with his own site wrote:The Return of Vanessa Amorosi
How is it that one of Australia's most talented singers has spent the last few years playing corporate gigs and languishing in clubland? Beats us. But the fact that Vanessa Amorosi has new management in the form of Tina Arena's ex-manager Ralph Carr can only be a good thing. Amorosi, you'll recall, had a No. 1 album in 2000 with The Power and she capped that year with a performance at the Sydney Olympics opening ceremony.
Local scribe Christie Eliezer quotes Carr as saying Amorosi is now set “to make the album she should have made years ago”, and hints that former Alanis writer/producer Glen Ballard is a likely collaborator. All this suggests Amorosi will put the dance-pop routine behind her and finally embrace the rawer, rockier sound her Joplin-esque vocals deserve.
Stay tuned: this will be a comeback worth waiting for.I am hoping that this new career move will at last allow this talented singer to "shine" in the way that I always expected her to. Her new manager's bio states that he has twenty years experience in the Australian music industry and that he has been involved in artist management, developing and "in many cases establishing the Australian and international careers of many of Australia’s biggest acts, namely Rick Price, Tina Arena, s2s and Invertigo." It describes him as "committed to developing Australian acts to a world standard and then pursuing the right deals and marketing edge for them."
I hope this works out well for Vanessa.

Thank you for all the info and thanks for opening this thread.
I also recognized her the first time during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Sydney and immediately fell in love with her voice and her happy attitude towards life. She seems to be smiling all the time and you can really see the happiness in her eyes. I really like this great grin of her, that you can see on nearly every photo that you guys have posted above. That´s absolutely catching.
I have 2 of her albums and I remember that I listened to them all the time when she was famous in Germany. Unfortunately she kind of vanished from the screen during the last years. But hopefully she will come back again with this new record deal.
It would be great to hear something new from this excellent singer.
