Thanks, Wombat! ;D Yes, the comment at the end from Helen Reddy is GREAT. ;D I believe there will be no problem with Vanessa when it comes to the " hear me roar" part! I got to watching some of the related YouTubes and it seems they make a fuss over the high notes reached by Vanessa during that performance. I'm also impressed with her low notes as well. I still haven't heard the full Somewhere In The Real World album yet. I only managed to get two of her singles: "Kiss Your Mama" and "Perfect". The KYM single had a B-side that I didn't like much. "Perfect" is my favourite of those I've heard thus far. While checking out your YouTube, I found this video of Vanessa showing off the town in which she grew up: Emerald, Victoria. ie.youtube.com/watch?v=CebbwnFwLJo&fmt=18Looks like a pretty place!

Seriously, Steve & others, look her up now!!!
New single Simple Things is on YouTube, as well as live performances of My House, I Thought We'd Star Together & those favourites KYM & Perfect.
I didn't really like Dirty Face (the KYM b-side) too much, but it was good to get that sample at the time.

Eek... it's actually "I Thought We'd Stay Together". I've been making a lot of typos recently. I hope you'll forgive me.

Yeah I did, Mel - thanks! I got to listen to "I Thought We'd Stay Together" at Vanessa's MySpace page.
Mind you, I still need to listen a few more times to let the songs "sink in", and most importantly I am glad that she is back after all these years off. Being completely honest though - I'm a bit disappointed that it's so R&B/Pop and less of that rock/blues that she sings so well. Still, I'm impressed (as always) with her vocal abilities. In my estimation, "Perfect" still is the best track I've heard from Somewhere In The Real World. Some of the other songs seem to fit in TOO well with current American pop, if you get what I mean.

^^ Well it was recorded in the US. A good point, Meli! Which begs this question: if she's going to record in the States and make an album that sounds so influenced by American pop, why aren't they going to release Somewhere In The Real World in the U.S.? The U.S. record companies have a poor track record in recent history with the big Aussie stars. I'm not sure how Missy Higgins' CD did, but Delta Goodrem's recent release went nowhere. I personally think that there is a lot of corruption in the U.S. record industry, since, for the most part, the cream is not rising to the top... at least in my estimation. If I want to buy Somewhere In The Real World at Amazon.com here in the States, the CD is an import that costs $48.00 U.S. (which works out to about $68.00 Australian dollars). That's why I don't have it yet. Thanks for your "megamix"! I got to hear some tracks that I hadn't heard yet - some good ones too! Your mix is quite avant-garde with the multiple tracks of drum beats, each keeping their own rhythm, like raindrops randomly hitting a tin roof. Which program are you using to do your mixing? But I appreciated hearing some new tracks!

^^ Erm... it's called tracAxPC, apparently. I asked around, because I wanted to experiment with some stuff.
Also, I prefer Start It, Kiss Your Mama!, Perfect and My Problem Is You... Fan favourites include My House, 19 Turning Point (which was misprinted as "19 Turining Point" on the CD) and Who Am I.
Singles are: Kiss Your Mama! Perfect The Simple Things (Something Emotional)
Also used in promotion was Start It, for the Channel 7 (aus) football season.

It's not a favourite of mine, and it's not single material, especially after the success Perfect produced earlier this year, but it's still one of the good simple songs, and you don't find many of those any more...
