I successfully talked my mum into buying the ABBA Gold album (greatest Hits) today! Haha, needless to say that I wanted to have that CD! Hihi, now it is officially her CD but I also finally have my favorite ABBA songs. Knowing me Knowing you; The name of the game; Does your mother know and many more. I really love those three songs mentioned most, I think, though EVERY ABBA song´s just awesome. The reason why I like Does you mother know is that you actually have some of the guy´s vocals there! And Knowing me knowing you will stay my all time fav ABBA song ´cause of it´s wonderful melody, especially when it comes to the Breaking up is never easy, I know, but I have to go... part, it is just heartbreaking, also with the baking vocals of Benny and Björn there, who at that very moment get to sing a wonderful tune. Both, tunes and vocals, of the differnt parts that Benny and Björn on the one hand and Agnetha and Anni-Frid (Known as Frida) on the other hand sing there just blow me away! The lyrics totally fit the melody and are very bittersweet. It actually is such a sad song but yet wonderful in itself ´cause it still´s got hope in it....And now I bore you with ABBA! Haha, but telling you, if I´d have been born not in the eightees but sometime earlier, I probably would have turned out as a ABBA fan! They were just amazing. I especially love those songs that Firda got to sing! You know, those ABBA fans that I know are all crazy about Agnetha´s vocals and they are surely right about the fact that she was able to do some amazing things with her voice, but for some reason I still like Frida´s voice more. And I go all crazy when Benny and Björn get to sing!!! I´d SO love to go and see the Musical “Mamma Mia” though I have been told that when you want to get a somewhat good seat, you have to pay 79-100 €!!! Well, I guess I will have to save some money for that! Björn Benny Agnetha Frida

Hey, wasn't Frida performing a song with John Lord a few months ago? That was the first time I saw her on TV again.

I have always been a huge fan of ABBA! I have all of their albums. It's sometimes embarrassing to admit being a fan of ABBA, since they are considered so "soft-rock." But they wrote some great songs. But, hey, Bono of U2 is an unashamed fan of ABBA and the Corrs also grew up listening to their music, so I am in good company! It's nice to see that Agnetha Fältskog came out of hiding to record a new album last year. She really sounds good.

I don't think one should feel embarrassed because of listening to ABBA. They are a great band (though I'm one of those who don't have any abums and so on but I like their music. And a fact is that they had huge success! And if the people today think that it's "soft-rock" I don't care, because I like them. And I don't care what category they're put into. Because all that finally counts is the music....and unfortunatly some people forgett that in our time today ) My opinion

Big dito to what Caro just said!!!!!!!!! I totally agree! But Steve, why doesn´t it come as much as a surprise to me, that you like the band as well? You DO have a great taste in music!!! And I never knew that Bono´s a ABBA fan! Now that makes me like Bono even more!

To pick a favourite ABBA song is kind of like picking a favourite Beatles or Corrs song, there's just so many of them. And it depends on my mood at the time. If I had to choose right now, it would be "The Winner Takes It All." Such a great performance by Agnetha on that one. Agnetha also sings a very emotionally-charge song called "Slipping Through My Fingers." "One of Us" is another great song; it has a very Russian-sounding opening. But I love the Frida vocals as well, such as "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "Fernando," and "I Wonder (Departure)."

But I do recall in my younger years taking some jabs from my oldest brother for liking ABBA, the Carpenters and even John Denver! My grandfather was a violinist who at one time played in the orchestras of early Hollywood, and he also played the clarinet and trombone. My grandfather, the son of a Swedish ImmigrantMy grandmother played the piano, organ and the accordion. Largely because of them, I grew up appreciating classical music and I have always appreciated great melody. The songs of Benny and Bjorn are full of great melody. And the vocals of Frida (mezzo-soprano) and Agnetha (soprano) always complimented each other very effectively.

I really loved their songs the first time I listened to them. So many nice songs ! And the ABBA Gold (Greatest hits) album is a must !
Pity that it doesn't include the song "Happy new year" (you have to buy the double CD best of). I like one which is not one of the famous : "One of us", also "SOS" ...

And I never knew that Bono´s a ABBA fan! Now that makes me like Bono even more! .Yes, I have a DVD called “The Winner Takes It All: The ABBA Story” in which U2's Bono talks about his change of heart towards ABBA: “It was the era of punk rock, and ABBA were to be beheaded. And I probably would have held the ax. They didn’t make boys’ music; they made girls’ music, so that was… that was enough…
...and to have you completely ignore what turned out to be one of the greatest pop groups of all time.
But I think ABBA have a pure joy to their music, and that’s what makes them extraordinary.
These tunes are gonna be around for a long time. They’re one of the best pop groups there ever was.”
