As Swanny, Caro and I talked about books while we were meeting, I guess it might be worth to open a thread where everybody can recommend or discuss favourite books.
So, my first recommendation: I especially love books written by Nora Roberts. For all of you who like belletristik... Nora Roberts published two trilogies which take place in Ireland! (Isn't that reason enough to buy? :-) )
Irish Trilogy: - Jewels of the Sun (1) (German: Insel des Sturms) - Tears of the Moon (2) (German: Nächte des Sturms) - Heart of the Sea (3) (German: Kinder des Sturms)
Born in-Trilogy - Born in Fire (1) (German: Töchter des Feuers) - Born in Ice (2) (German: Töchter des Windes) - Born in Shame (3) (German: Töchter der See)
And once I read a book called "Mit dem Kühlschrank durch Irland" in German. Original version: "Round Ireland with a fridge" by Tony Hawks. This book is quite unusual but also pretty funny. Unbelievable. You can't describe it. Just read it! :-)
Can anyone of you recommend more books where the action takes place in Ireland?

Yep, I can recommend another one, well, melli you already know it, it's called: - PS, I love you it was written by Cecelia Ahern who is the daughter of the irish Prime Minister. It's my favourite book and Cecelia Ahern is going to become my favourite auther as I'm just reading her second book - Rosie Dunne (or in Ireland and UK "Where Rainbows end") I would recommend these books to everyone who likes Love stories that 100%ly touch on your heart strings and don't become boring though the books are more than 300 pages

So, after Caro, Sabine and Melli have told me so much about "PS:I love you" I actually bought it in Berlin (as Caro and Melli know). I did not start reading though. At the moment I am at the holiday house again and I will start to read later today. I´ll tell you what I think about it!!!
(And great idea for a thread. I´ll tell you about my favorite books when I am back home...)

Now, there´s not much more for me to add, as you have already recommended the books written by Cecelia Ahern. I just love them. I bought both of them the last time I was in Dublin. Actually I was a little bit confused because of the different titles, because (as mentioned before) there are 2 different titles for the English books. I think "Rosie Dunne" is the American version and "where rainbows end" must be the English and Irish. Oh, by the way, there´s a third book written by her, that´s going to be released this autumn. It´s called the "silver lining" and I´ve already read a short extract of the book. It was at the end of "where rainbows end". I don´t really know yet what the story is about, but I think that it might be as brilliant as the other two. She´s a really great author and I really appreciate that her books are so different. Most authors have a similar way of writing, so when you know one book, you already know the others as well without having read them. But in this case they are all really different. And I just love that they all take place in Dublin which is my absolute favourite city (hihi, you should ask Swantje about me and my obsession with Dublin ;D)

Oh my god, that´s a long story! I went to Dublin in March/April 2005 for the first time to do a work experience of 4 week´s time (I´m becoming a foreign language assistant and therefore I need this work experience). I had the best time ever when I was there. I absolutely fell in love with the city and especially witht the Irish people (hihi, not with a special person, it´s just the way they behave). It´s such a different way of living over there and I never got to know something like that before, I think that´s what fascinated me. I got to know so many people during that short time and they are all so nice and friendly. I really enjoyed my stay. The company I was working at was gorgeous. I´m still in contact with the people I met in Dublin and also went back for my holiday to visit them some weeks ago. And I´m sure I´ll come back, maybe to stay a bit longer than before. It´s a fantastic country, especially a great city of course, with lovely people living there. Ok, that should do at first. I could go on like that for ages. So, if you want to know more, just ask me. I love to talk about it (like you might have noticed by now). ;D

That sounds wonderful, Sabine! Thanks for the good explanation of your fascination with Dublin. You're welcome any time to post about Dublin or Ireland. I, for one, will be a willing reader!

Oh, I know another Irish writer. It´s Maeve Binchy. She´s also written some nice books, mostly romantic stories, I´d say, but also other nice fictional stories and they all take place in Ireland. Mostly in Dublin. I´ve read some really nice ones.
Let´s see, how are they called:
Dublin 4 (in German "Das Herz von Dublin") Quentins (in German "Wiedersehen bei Brenda") Light a Penny Candle (in German "Irische Freundschaften")
So, these are the books I´ve read and I can really recommend them. They are really great.

I just wanted to write an update concerning the books of Cecelia Ahern. As I´ve already written before she was about to release a third book, which I thought to be called "The silver lining", but when it was actually released last year in November, they changed the title to "If you could see me now".
I had already ordered the book last year, but I didn´t have the time to read it, until now. Swantje and Caro have also read the book (they bought it, when they were here in Paderborn around New Year´s Eve) and I thought that it would be nice to have a thread where we can all post our opinions, etc. about the new book, so I just revived this old thread.
"Life is made up of meetings and partings. People come into your life everyday, you say good morning, you say good evening, some stay for a few minutes, some stay for a few months, others a whole lifetime. No matter who it is, you meet and then you part."
This is a quote from the book. When I read it, I immediately felt like posting it here. It´s just so true, really. That´s what immediately came to my mind when I read it, it´s just so true.
I absolutely love the book and it once again confirmed, that Cecelia Ahern is a wonderful and very talented writer. I fell in love with her way of writing when I was reading the first book of her (well, it was her second book, but the first book that I read written by her) and I´m still impressed by it. There is so much love for writing, stories and especially her characters on every page of her books, that it´s impossible not to love them. I can´t imagine the world without those stories and everytime when I´ve finished a book by her, I´m sad that it´s over, because then I have to leave this newly created world again.
But, there´s hope, I´ve read that she´s writing a fourth book and I´m soooooooo much looking forward to reading that.

Ow, yes, yes, yes. Lalala. I am already sure that there´ll be some hair pulling between Caro and me because I tend not to like Ivan that much anymore haha. I really enjoyed reading "If you could see me now"!!! It was both sweet and entertaining as well as deep and ... it made me cry at one point. It was tough to "leave" the story. I had read the books for a couple of days and then, when I was finished, about two hours later, I thought to myself: "Oki, now, time to go back into that new Ahern world...no...wait...I´m finished with reading it!" *sob* I mostly like the relationship between Elizabeth and her father as well as her nephew and sister. Of course, all of this is highly influenced by her relationship with Ivan, who is invisible, or not?! I read that so far the new book is due in November and got the title "A place called here". Can that be true?

Ok, I´ve found out more about her new book. I´ve once again fetched an interview with her from a German magazine where she says something about her new book: She says that it´s gonna be a thriller (I´d prefer another love novel, but, well...), but there will be no dead people in it and the book will of course have a happy end. Cecelia says that she´s not a person who would settle for less. She is absolutely determined to have a great life and to tell everybody how to live a great life. She takes that as her literary commission. That´s really well said, I´d say.

A new book? WOW! AGAIN? hahaha, wow...looking forward to it...even if it's a thriller ( ) but oookay, why not...a lovestory...with...ahm...no dying people...and...meeting....and...parting....and...and...well and then-a-little-murder (of course no one dies)-on-the-churchyard-and again we have a great novel by our great Cecelia Ahern! Ta-DA! I guess I'm not gonna say anything about the statement of swanny....that she doesn't like Ivan...AH! How can that be? He's such a nice guy and then he is falling into this bath of questions whether to go on with that relationship or not and here and there and this and that and ah! ..... He's just great! And he wears blue! ALL THE TIME....except after he met Elizabeth...and she thought that that's kind of unhygienic hahaha...blue's a tough colour! YEAH! hahaha. I mostly liked what happen from page 1- 307 of course including the acknowledgments that really started me to doubt myself hahaha. And not to forget about the "Jardín" scene and the misunderstood rendevous on at the beach! hahahaha. Jinny Joe...I'm gonna start believing again haahaha...let's try this wishing upon something and teasing the little IFs with it! hahahaha ;D You see, I totally fell in love with that book...aaaaaaand the night I finished it, I had my best sleep ever!....guess I'll have to read it again...only for to get better sleep hahaha ;D
